The High Court expressed surprise at the haste shown in the selection process of Assistant Professor in the Commerce and Business Administration Department of Allahabad University. It asked, why was there so much hurry that the selection process was completed during the hearing in the court itself. The court has directed to keep one post of general category vacant and has sought a reply from the university by August 5.

This order has been given by the court of Justice Subhash Vidyarthi on the petition of Divisha Agarwal. The petitioner had challenged the selection list of the interview for the post of Assistant Professor advertised by the university for Allahabad Degree College in November 2022. The petitioner claims that she is a qualified candidate for the post but she was not called for the interview.
Petitioner’s advocate Sudeep Harkauli argued that according to the rules of University Grants Commission (UGC), 55% marks in masters are mandatory for direct recruitment in commerce subjects. The petitioner has also done MBA along with B.Com, which is a masters degree and is relevant for the advertised post.
In support of his argument, the petitioner cited the advertisement issued by the central university, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), in which the MBA degree has been considered relevant. The court considered the matter debatable and summoned the reply from the university administration on July 24 and fixed the hearing of the case on July 26.
